I think they are! I have never understood why they get paid so much money for kicking a ball. Other sports men and women don't get paid that sort of money as far as I am aware.

I just feel that there are a lot of other jobs - that require years of hard work and study - and are of far more benefit to society as a whole - that don't get paid anyone near as much. Seems totally illogical to me!

It's a very short lived career. I know we all say this but it really is. Also, the injuries sustained can be life threatening at time. Not all football players are thick idiots you know. Some have degrees, good schooling and very intelligent we should not tar them all with the JT / Rio bruish please!!

I do agree that it is out of hand in some asects, they get a lot of cash to promote as well as sponsorship deals etc but not all are flash harrys!

Does the Pope sh*t in the woods?! No. They are paid a massive amount, but compare it to actors and then look at how short a footballer's career is. I've even surprised myself with this answer. Too True Dr Gonzo - very shortlived...............unless your Beckham and can cash in on Beckham Brand and living it up in LA with successful wife who earns as much then they need to make as much as they can, career is down hill from 35 onwards, it's great if you can get into being a Sky pundit but not always possible, guess dependd on how high profile a player and hopw good you are and comfortable you are speaking on tv and presenting.

Footballers can continue their careers as coaches or something can't they - there must be other football related careers, I don't know, commentators or something!

All sports, dancing etc type careers are relatively short-lived - but none get paid as much as footballers - don't get it!

If we started paying 50 quid to see and cheer on Uni students building more efficient, intuitive and high-speed Operating Systems then it would not be long before 100 of the best would be making huge money and million dollar bank accounts,
and,
at least an 'actual thing' making some helpful difference in your own daily life would occur that really would affect your life.

In fact, no footballer has ever produced anything for our society. Nothing. Absolutely nothing is done except aerating some grass and a little net-stretching.
Zero is produced.
Nothing of any real consequence is actually made or does any real thing for your life.

Yeh but the money in the jobs they can get later is a fraction of what they're paid now. You have to remember it isn't just about paying them, it's paying them enough to make it hard for anyone else to have them. It isn't just wages... it's also part stratergy. Like an auction.

again i reiterate that most football players in the UK get paid regular or sub standard wages. It is only the head of the pint that gets the big money.

I think there are many professions, dentists come to mind, that are well over paid, lawyers is another.

I don't even pay or support anything to do with the football industry. It is good for fitness, kids doing it and being physically active but the footballers do get paid too much per week, as do other people in the sporting or media industry but it is the way how things work unfortunately. If most of the people in the world were all on a similar wage the world would be a better place.

Agreed! Unfortunately, the world doesn't seem to be able to function like that. It makes sense in theory - but human beings always seem to want to compete and be better than and have more than others. We live in a largely capitialistic world!

Not that I support communism - but I do feel that divides are too big - and the world's wealth should be more evenly distributed. Countries and individuals should have an important part to play though in contributing and earning their share!

Hardly a hobby! You need to be in the best physical condition to ensure you are at the top of your game and in the first team each week. You need to eat the right things. You have to train hard. Also, the injuries sustained can be career ending, life threatening.

Hobby ending...dear.

Kicking a ball around a field is not around a field is not a 'job'. Millions of people do it...after school, after work...etc. Just some LUCKY people, get paid for doing it.

Its kind of like me getting paid shedloads of money for reading a book. Because I read a little faster than others. And i could sustain a serious paper cut while doing it.
