Default "Anyone but England".

Why?

I just don't get it. I may be about to sever all friendship with lili here but I need to say this

Like, okay, I understand it must be terrible if you're part of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland because YOUR national teams are terrible, but honestly...it's so sad.

I support any home nation :\ why can't everyone else?

I understand for most it's probably just a joke, but I detect some genuine hatred of the English in some factions of this support. I guess it must be envy. We're the richest, most populous, most picturesque and important nation, after all...

I think it's just sardonic payback for ... well ... history. Nothing against the English personally. But I can't help but laugh when they loose at things like football and ... war.

It's tough to explain unless you are Welsh, Scottish or Irish. But there is this definate internal thing that's been instillied into us that makes us want to see them loose.

We're soon going to lose in Afghanistan but that's another issue.

I was brought up to support any team England was playing so I sympathize with the Scots etc. Imagine if England actually won the World cup. We'd never hear the last of it. Their still on about the last time they won and that was more than ten years before I was born.

It was a joke chicken. But the country I am in, for one.

I suppose it was funny watching the English fight so dearly to keep that gem known as the Falklands, though.

That's an important comparison to make actually. Do you like to see the Germans lose? Well obviously you do since the moment you beat them in Germany 5-1 was voted no 2 in your 100 Greatest Sporting Moments.

So, what I'm trying to say is that every football fan has a team that they despise or love to see lose. England is the one for quite alot of Welsh, Scots and Irish people. Get over it for feck sake.

I'm supporting England in the World Cup. There are a lot of people in the school though who hate England and their people, I don't see why though.

Surely that's more to do with the nature of England's victory rather than Germany's defeat.

But don't you think it's mad that that particular moment was voted number 2 from the entire catalogue of great Sporting achievements of your country? You like to see them lose, don't lie lol. That's what sport is all about.
