I don't like the way they lied about him having a gf, it was obvious that she was his gf, yet they lie in magazine articles. I dont like that side of him and he should of stood up for himself and his gf, if it lost him votes then be it atleast he would be honest. The Daily Star today has the headline 'X Factor Fake'. It says that even if he is voted off Shayne is already guaranteed a Ł1 million record contract from Louis Walsh .

Meh they have these claims every year. But if you do look at it logically there is a slight favouitism towards Shayne. Probably because they know out of all the finalists he is likely to be the most successful.

But we have seen this story before...young male 'heartthrobs'...David Sneddon, Gareth Gates....all ever so familiar.

I don't know about every year, but when a similar story was fabricated last year about Rowetta by Louis Walsh, it really ruined her chances on the show. There was also a story a few weeks ago, suggesting that Shayne was the favourite of all three judges.

I don't see the comparison with those people at all. David Sneddon always seemed like a nice guy, if a little tedious. But eye candy he most certainly wasn't. Gareth Gates, on the other hand, was a real heartbreaker. He could've got by in spite of his lack of vocal ability if he'd been managed properly. It worked for Will Young, after all.

I can see why Shayne is popular with a lot of female viewers, but I think he is totally over-rated. He's also cocky and getting a bit too big for his boots.

Aye, indeed it did dent Rowetta's chances. Shame because she was ace. Far better than what we ended up with as a "winner".

I see the comparison with Sneddon, they're both young guys (who I'm sure had/have plenty of teenage girls voting for them) and that's what wins these days.

It's a shame because so much talent is thrown by the way-saide to make room for the enxt big teenie-bopper thing....until they decide they don't like them anymore and move on..ie. Gareth Gates/ David Sneddon...

And yes, Ruth, he is getting very cocky, but he's known from the start he is a favourite...head is getting bigger by the minute. Maybe they'' enlarge the studio door for him next week.

I think he had a bad night last week, but otherwise he's shown far more talent and ability than pretty much all of the other finalists. He's been consistent from his first audition onwards. I don't think he's being cocky, either. Sharon is teasing him each week, so what is he supposed to do? Blush and then clam up? If anything, he shows confidence, and I don't see that as a negative quality at all. And, given that he's had by far the most negative tabloid attention of all the finalists, it's actually a credit to him.

If I'd been in his shoes, and had to suffer the lurid tabloid tales about my family that Shayne has, I'd very probably have pulled-out of the show. As it is, I think the fact that he's still there at all and able to deliver each week is extremely brave, and not even remotely cocky.

As for being overrated, it depends on who you're comparing him to. As far as the show is concerned, both Andy and Maria are more talented singers. But although she undoubtedly deserves it, I can't see Maria making the final. And between Shayne and Andy, I don't think there's much doubt which act would be likely to succeed abroad as well as in the UK, and ultimately sell the most records.

LOL! There's nobody that even auditioned this year that could sell me a CD in their wildest dreams! I just think that the potential is there to market him in a similar manner to Robbie Williams or Justin Timberlake, for example.

There's nobody in the final this year that I would buy records by to be honest. I only started watching the show because someone at work said that the audition stage was really funny (when you saw the bad acts as well as the good ones). Then I got suckered in.

I do think Shayne is cocky, but as I said, it's only my perception of him. I'm not trying to start an argument I know he has had to endure all sorts written in the tabloids about his family, and I do feel sorry for him for that, because it must be a strain for him.

But I was only saying what my perception of him was. People do view different people in different ways after all.

I think Maria is definitely one of the top three in the contest, along with Andy and Brenda. I would really like it if those three were the three final acts in the competition and would be pleased if any of them won. I hope Maria does get to the final, or in any event, secures a good deal out of the contest.

I agree Shayne does have the potential to sell more records than Andy probably, because of his look and who he is likely to appeal to. But I still think that Andy's voice is far superior in terms of voice.

Aye, I can see that way of marketing. Well we know whether or not he wins we will see a Shayne Ward CD no matter what. Maybe it's better if he doesn't win?

True. Often the most succesful person (financially, anyway) is not the winner. For example, Lemar came third in Fame Academy but was clearly the most succesful, and (as much as I really hate to say it), Makosi was the most finacially succesful from BB6, yet she came third.

Unfortunately though, sometimes the winner does indeed do well for themselves. It amazes me that Will Young is still around, in spite of the fact that he's never had an even half-decent single to date. When he murdered Light My Fire it was bad enough, but he just keeps going and going, firing out the blandest of the bland like some demonic Duracell Bunny. His current video is even more hilarious than that awful swimming thing from a while back, and the song itself is a mish-mash of other people's work - the hook being the most obvious (stolen from Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away).
