X Factor wins comedy award
Quote:
X FACTOR HAS LAST LAUGH...
SIMON Cowell’s X Factor is a joke – and that’s official.
The smash hit Saturday night telly show was a bizarre winner at last night’s 16th British Comedy Awards.
Millions of viewers saw X Factor – also starring Sharon Osbourne, 53, and Louis Walsh, 51 – named Best COMEDY Entertainment Show. Mr Nasty Cowell, 46, beat Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
In another bizarre decision chat show host Paul O’Grady, 50, beat Ant and Dec, both 30, and Ross, 45, as Comedy Entertainment Personality.
Little Britain won best TV comedy and the first Ronnie Barker Writer Of The Year award for creators Matt Lucas, 31, and David Walliams, 34. A series of comedy giants missed out. Catherine Tate, 36, who had two nominations, and Ricky Gervais, 44, who had a record five, were the big losers on the night.
But Gervais’s Extras co-star Ashley Jensen, 36, took two gongs. The Scot, who plays hapless wannabe Maggie, won the newcomer award and best TV comedy actress.
The night’s big winner was Chris Langham, 56. He was named best actor, and his political sitcom The Thick of It was Best New Comedy.
