Sad news for fans of Gary Windass's mate Quinny, today. The Sunday People reveal that he'll be killed off by a Taliban bomb in Afghanistan later this year while saving Gary's life.

Gary then agonises over whether to keep the pact that if one of them dies the surviving soldier will speak to the victims family face-to-face and reveal what happened. Viewers will see Gary telling his mum: "Quinny saved my life. People are saying I was the hero for surviving but if it hadn't been for Quinny I wouldn't be here. He was the real hero."

A Coronation Street insider told the paper: "This will be harrowing stuff. The realities of war in Afghanistan will be vividly brought home to the viewers. We hope our portrayal of the war and its consequences will be realistic and sensitive at the same time."

lol I liked Quinny, but I think this is the best way to show the effects of war without killing off Gary

I read something on this a while back, only it wasn't confirmed, just speculation.

I really hope they do this the justice it deserves. Corrie sometimes has a habit of rushing things, but I do feel this one is going to be a slow burner and really hard hitting when it reaches our screens.

I hope so too, it will be hard for Gary to tell Quinny's parents, I'm guessing Gary will be injured too

Aww Though I never saw him as an actual character in Corrie. I always assumed he was there as a speaking 'extra'
