Default Satellites.01

Satellites.01

Every songwriter dreams of making a complete artistic statement - an uncompromising, bold expression of the space they find themselves in. not written because they think anyone needs to hear it or commerce requires it, but because their life demands that they alone articulate where they are to be able to move forward.

'I live in a city, but i don't speak the language, but everybody speaks mine - not the best environment for a paranoid mind'.

An englishman abroad, as Satellites Johnny Vic has delivered a remarkable life's work in just 9 songs across 43 minutes. His first missive, Satellites.01, is as complete a statement as any songwriter can aspire to. Not just a collection of brilliant songs, but an album - a narrative with a beginning, middle and end; the antidote to drowning in the digital flotsam and jetsam of our spotty random playlists. With a few spare contributions from friends, he has single-handedly chiseled an extraordinary monument to manhood - the need to provide, to deliver a legacy, to loved ones, to his son.

Written and largely recorded on the move around the globe, the album has a hushed but gritty purpose, belying its elegant architecture. a swell of guitars, piano, horns, strings, chorals, around Johnny's breathtakingly direct lyrics, 'Satellites.01' sweeps from euphoria to melancholy and back. With its cinematic, open-vista ambition in colour and content, the production never overwhelms the songs' intimacy. Echoing the raw melodic drive of early New Order, the concise yet oblique beauty of the national, maybe even a male counterpart to the domestic claustrophobia of fever ray, this album will enthrall those who discover it.

Lavishly packaged in a limited edition of 500, the gatefold set comprises two transparent green 10" records and integrated cd. Whilst other albums might get spat out of the hype machine as quickly as they are processed, 'Satellites.01' is an album that will linger with a chilly hand to guide you through 2012. 'All i know is this all ends tonight'. resigned to closure yet seizing release, one senses this is only the beginning.

Track list:

1. In A City
2. Railway Line
3. Small Neighbourhood
4. Best Days Of Our Lives
5. Mindreading
6. Calm Of The Water
7. Where Love Lies Bleeding
8. Boy Cries Wolf
9. Sale Of The Century

I really like this album, but when I saw the gatefold 10" vinyl pack with cd I just had to buy it.

satellites 01
10" vinyl
special collectors edition
casebound hard cover gatefold double vinyl edition and cd limited to 500 pressings.

the gatefold is covered in screen printed silver fabric reminiscent of a weathered satellite exterior.
each mirror-board record wallet is die-cut to resemble a data-disk which houses the transparent green vinyl.

the lyric sheet has been screen printed on green acrylic.
the cd is housed in its own foil-blocked, mirror-board wallet with screen printed release information over the gatefold sleeve.

You don't get that with a download. Apparently it's selling quite quickly.
