Yeah. Some people want just that - friendship, be they same-sex or opposite-sex ones.

That said it doesn't work very well with teenagers in general. They'll always want a bit more than that and usually aren't mature enough to come across a genuine opposite sex friendship - and allegedly nothing more than that - without slinging around the "X and X sitting in a tree ... " bollocks.

From my own experience and seeing lot's of others too, definately, My family from Mum and Dad downwards all have female and male friends, I have female friends as well as male friends.
I also think people who have been married can also be good friends too, I have a Cousin for instance whose wife left and got involved with someone else but they now get on like a house on fire as opposed to when they were together.

I guess when sexuality comes into it, if they're man being friends with a woman is gay, or the woman being friends with the man is lesbian then it's different. Or asexual of course. But in terms of hetrosexuality I think like Livia said, a drunken kiss or even more between 'friends' can certainly change things. And if you do end up kissing, the feeling were probably there anyway.
