EX-Coronation Street star Bruce Jones is set to join Celebrity Big Brother.

Bruce, best known as Les Battersby, will join Abs from boyband 5ive next Friday on Channel 5.

The ex-Corrie star 60, has struggled with alcoholism and depression.

He was axed from the show in 2007 after drunkenly revealing plots to fellow drinkers in pubs.

In 2010 he grabbed the wheel of a car his wife Sandra was driving in a bid to kill them both.

Months later, he took a mechanic’s job and in 2011 he lost two homes, in Cheshire and Wales, because of his debts.

Bruce, who has quit boozing, said: “I decided I’d drink my depression away. I wanted to die.”

Jones believes several events in his life triggered his depression, including discovering one of the Yorkshire ripper’s victims.

Other celebrities believed to be entering the house include The Only Way Is Essex hunk Mario Falcone.

Mario, who previously dated Lucy Mecklenburgh, admitted earlier this year that he attempted suicide.

The housemates will join Abs from boyband 5ive - real name Richard Breen - in the Channel 5 show.

Lasy year, Bruce was rumoured for the series alongside his former on screen wife, Wendi Peters.

Bruce Jones is such a nice bloke, met him on the set of Corrie back in the day and he was such a gent even though he was kind of mid-scene ha. He lives here in Wales now I believe after sorting his demons out bless him, working as a mechanic.

So that's the third TOWIE person rumoured then (Sam, Joey and now Mario) wonder which, if any, go in.

Have a feeling Abz is a cert now seeing how heavily rumoured he is, seems to be the name cropping up the most in all articles.

I'm also American and not a CBB expert; do they ordinarily cast attempted killers? Wouldn't it be better not to "celebrate" violent criminals?

It was a joke, obviously it has failed...

I dont know if he actually tried to kill her, I have no idea.

If he did it's beyond me why he wasn't convicted of attempted murder, maybe not true...

They were in his car had a row she said she was leaving him so he let the car get out of control on purpose cos he said he couldn't live without her and was taking her with him.
