Only Girl was definitely fresh sounding at the time of its release so idg your point

only girl brings me right back to Autumn 2010 <3 Pink Friday LOUD MBDTF and then of course amazing series of X Factor, The Apprentice and I'm a Celeb. it was a great time to be alive

um no not in the US.. the 2000s were the Urban era for the charts, 80% of #1s were hip-hop/R&B songs. just look at 2004.. EVERY number one song was by a black artist
it all started to change in 2008, then more so in 2009 and by 2011 EDM was literally everywhere. |

tbh it could genuinely be argued that rihanna helped to popularise dance music in America and opened the doors for the likes of Ke$ha and Gaga
