Say you're in a relationship with someone and one of you has some kind of accident and suffers from amnesia and can't remember anything about your relationship with no guarantee that they'll ever remember - would you (if you were the one affected, or the partner) stick around to try and get the relationship back on track or would you consider yourself single and move on?

If all whats changed is that memories have been forgotten, then Id imagine falling in love would occur again.

Any form of memory loss would definitely be a challenge but perhaps if there ever was any genuine form of attraction, you might be inclined to allow your feelings of love surpass ones of attraction? I dunno. It's one of those things that are very difficult to imagine unless they actually hit close to home. It would be *nice* to create new memories especially if the partner can't remember old ones but as I said it it's hard to picture not having experienced it.
What sort of amnesia are you on about - anterograde (where the person in question remembers before the incident), the opposite or...? |

So they don't remember meeting you or any of your shared memories, to them you are a person who claims they are your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner but you have no idea who they are. Yeah like that Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore film

I would still love him and want to be with him, it's up to him really.

If there was true love between the pair they may well be able to rekindle it, even if they can't remember how it was initially. That's if the illness didn't knock them back so much that they'd even forgotten how it's like to be in love, how to approach it, etc. Last edited by Redway; 03-01-2014 at 05:06 PM. |

I always wondered how my grandad would have coped if he'd lived long enough to see my granny suffer from Alzheimer's, they were one of those couples who did everything together... slightly different from what I asked in the OP but memory loss is so heartbreaking to see, I think it would be difficult to cope with if someone you love couldn't remember the two of you ever being together

..there was a BBC drama once with John Hurt called Whistle and I'll come to You and part of the story was about his wife who was in Dementia and barely recognised him...it was really quite touching but upsetting as well...Alzheimer's for the whole family must be an awful thing to go through... |

Try to stick around for 2 months.
Just kidding I would try to give the relationship another shot if I really loved the person.
