I have no idea any more, it's just another over commercialised holiday...

I actually saw adverts on TV for DIY products encouraging people to decorate because it's Easter.

never understood easter , choc eggs. holidays. resurrections that never happen. erections happen thou when you see that tasty cream egg lol

Easter, unlike Christmas, is a moveable feast as you know. Jesus was arrested in Jerusalem during Passover (another moveable feast) which this year started on Monday and finishes next Tuesday.

The name Easter does come from a Pagan holiday though... the spring festival of the fertility Goddess Eostre or Ostara (the female hormone oestrogen is named after her). Eostre's familiar was supposed to have been a hare and her symbol an egg (not a massive stretch for a fertility goddess).

the god concept allows people to gain status by "knowing" what he says and wants, it allows control over people through laws and the knowledge of these laws and it gives easy broadbrush answers to difficult questions

its a no brainer why it works for many, especially in poorly educated areas

its also a method for humans to gather in tribes, itsself a hardwired Darwinian trait
