Mark: In order to make me more interesting to you and so you will like me more I pretend to have powers. If you like me more I can manipulate this to my advantage. I am also very very thick and thus susceptible to superstition and the like.

Jail: I pretend to be psychic as i am not pretty and it makes people interested in me more, its a defense mechanism I use.

I'm totally with you on this, but it's not as batsh!t crazy as some of stuff that's been pulled in the past. The phrase, "What can you teach me, bee?" springs to mind.
