Default Game Reviews

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Like the other review threads but with games! (If you hadn't guessed already )

I'll start things off.

THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU (DS)

TWEWY is a rather original RPG released last year for the DS. It's set in a real life city called Shibuya which is like a huge shopping district in Japan. The story is about a game in which saveral people are pitted against creatures and 'Reapers (People in charge of the game), in order to survive the people (Called players) have to complete missions and kill monsters (Called Noise). Instead of using swords or guns and army you fight with badges which are imbued with magical powers. Instead of armour you have to buy different brands of clothes. It all sounds rather...girly....but it's actually rather brilliant.

The battle system is kinda reminiscent of Kingdom hearts, everything is controlled via the touchscreen which is kinda weird at first but once you get used to it it feels very natural. You have a partner who fights on the second screen, you can control them by using the arrow buttons to attack but it is kind of weird to get used to.

Overall I think TWEWY is probably one of the best RPG's available with the DS and any fans of the Genre or Square Enix should definately buy they're latest gem.

9/10

I like it! I voted on your poll!

Back to reviews!

RESIDENT EVIL: DEADLY SILENCE (DS)

RES is a port of the original Resident Evil. The graphics remain largely the same (Apart from them being slightly better) and the hilarious but classic voice acting remains intact (Huzzah!).

RES features two different ways to paly the game, you have the 'classic mode' Which is basically the Playstation original and you have the 'Rebirth' mode which has little extras and changes. In Rebirth Mode there are new puzzles which feature touchscreen controls as well as touch operated Knife battles. There are more enemies as well and they're locations have been changed, for example the crows play a bigger role in the game as they appear in a lot more rooms alongside the usual zombies and monsters. It makes the game slightly tougher but for fans of the original it's something new.

There's been control changes, instead of the knife being an inventory item it's mapped to the L button and operates in a similar fashion to the more recent RE games. There's also a new 160 degree turn which helps greatly in tight situations.

Overall I think RES is a very impressive game, it's got everything the original had plus more meaning fans can find something new within it and play it on the go. People haven't played it before might not get it but it's still a great game. For new fans......watch out for those windows....

8/10

I'm doing a lot of DS reviews but I'm in a very DS mood I think i might do a few Xbox reviews later if i can get over the bitter taste of the red ring of death.

Well it's about time you bought a PS3!! You could pick up a 2nd hand on for around £230, maybe even cheaper, plus you can get a 250gb hard drive for around £50.

Shame on you..

Then (if you don't have) go buy a 32" LCD HD TV and a HDMI cable.. Also connect it to the net to enjoy more..

State of the art in gaming!

I'm a second year media student without EMA, £230 is too much. I do plan on getting one when I finish college and get a job (Here's hoping).

CRISIS CORE: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

Quite simply this game is amazing. CC is a prequel to FF7 and follows the character Zack who had a minor role in FF7. However in this game he is very well developed and is as likable rounded out as any FF protagonist (I actually think he is a better protagonist then Cloud). The story is about Zack's life as a member of SOLDIER and how he interacts with various characters. The story is quite self contained but I think it's a great story anyway, Both old and new characters are developed well and they are all memorable.

Instead of a normal turnbased system you run around instead from what I've seen of FF12 it's quite similar. I really like the battle system, it's very customizable (Is that even a word?).

Any fans of FF& would be robbing themselves if they don't get this game, it's a must have for PSPs.

10/10

TIME HOLLOW (DS)

Time Hollow is a point and click adventure game for the DS which is kinda similar to games like Hotel Dusk and Broken Sword. The story is VERY good and centres around a character called Ethan Kairos who has an item which can create wholes in time. The story is very reminscent of the Butterfly effect.

One of the main problems with TH is that it lacks diverse gameplay, you basically talk to people and draw circles. There's no real puzzles although sometimes you have to figure out what to do next.

Games like these live and die by it's characters, In Time Hollow most characters are very likable most aren't HUGELY deep but they are rounded enough. As mentioned before the plot is fantastic and will serve as the main hook, you'll want to keep playing to see what happens next. If you don't like a lot of reading and cutscenes, avoid this game.

Overall I really like Time Hollow, the story is fantastic and it can be addictive. However the lack of diversity in gameplay let's it down. If you got a spare few quid and are fans of games like Hotel Dusk pop down to your game shop and get it, it's a good game for fans of point and click games.

7/10.
