The DWP's latest advertising campaign is a moral monstrosity

'Make no mistake – this Tory Government isn’t here to end poverty but to rebrand it. Perhaps never before has this country been ruled by a party so image obsessed and PR driven. As they plough on with austerity, as much energy is expended on how policies look as how they actually affect people.

In the latest branding of austerity, the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has unveiled a fluffy mascot. Called "Workie", the multi-coloured cuddly creature bumbles around Britain beaming at pugs and wondering why people don’t care enough about pensions. It made its first appearance on the DWP’s Twitter feed yesterday, before airing on TV last night during an ad break between Coronation St and Emmerdale. Astonishingly, "Workie" cost Ł8.45m to commission.'

Not too sure it is as bad as it sounds.
The 8.5 million is for the whole campaign not just the initial advert.
People need to be made aware of their pension rights, no doubt it will save the government money in the future when we all have a pension of sorts to rely on.

Cause pensions are totally still gonna be a thing by the time I hit 90 or whatever stupid age it will be raised to by then.

It's patronising drivel that makes it very clear exactly how the high-up Tories perceive the average working Brit: Childish, and stupid.

The much simpler, cheaper solution would have been to legally compell employers to make sure that their staff are aware... as most big companies did ages ago.

True, anyone with half a brain will avoid pension plans and plan for their retirement with their own investments. It's about the only hope in hell people our age have of retiring before 75. And what's the point of retiring at 75?? "Good work sir, you've done your bit, now you can relay and enjo... Oh, you died. Oh well never mind. At least your kids can inherit your pension pot. After we take half of it."

My thoughts exactly, this is aimed at employers not 5yr olds....
Banal, silly but monstrously expensive, I'd love to see a costings of this project.
