Is this a cop out, Why not probe individuals?
There must be a list of names with which to base an inquiry..If there have been institutions that have harbored abusers then yes expose them, how though are they going to link in those who are outside of organisations? 'The inquiry won’t probe individuals but where there is evidence a person has abused their position – no matter how high or how low that position – it will be passed to the police to investigate.' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-you-know.html

If they know that then get on and do something about it.
This woman is totally useless. However to be a bit fair to her, this is something that has been allowed to develop over decades under all govts: |

Looks like it is all systems go..at last.
Only fitting that individuals are investigated by the police rather than probed by the enquiry, it needs to be seen to be all above board. I should imagine there will be people n high places losng sleep over this. |

If that were the case then fine I just hope it's not a get out clause, or that the spotlight thrust on one organisation so intently that others are allowed to slither under it.

well she's right.
The vast majority of child abuse occurs in the home, by fathers/uncles/grandpas/brothers against young girls. And unfortunately the family protects its patriarchs. The fact that she is only talking about the public institutions means that she is still missing the mark though. most of the abuse is happening in family homes. If you really want to tackle child abuse, you have to attack the entire patriarchal society. especially the patriarchs in the home.

The inquiry is relating to institutional historical abuse, of course all abuse of minors and is against the law and should be investigated that goes without question.

Is this to try and distract from what the two leading Government Parties have been doing for decades?

'Scotland Yard is to be investigated for alleged corruption over claims it covered up child abuse because police and MPs were involved.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission will carry out the investigation into the actions of the Metropolitan Police. There are 14 referrals which detail alleged corruption dating back to the 1970s and stretching into the 2000s. Sarah Green, deputy chair of the IPCC, said: "These allegations are of historic, high level corruption of the most serious nature. We will oversee the investigations and ensure that they meet the terms of reference that we will set.' http://news.sky.com/story/1445978/me...over-up-claims Allegations being investigated as set out by the IPCC include: A potential cover-up linked to "failures to properly investigate child sex abuse offences in south London and further information about criminal allegations against a politician being dropped" A claim that an investigation into young men being targeted at the Dolphin Square flats in Pimlico, south-west London, was halted because "officers were too near prominent people" An allegation that a document from the Houses of Parliament was found at a paedophile's address linking "highly-prominent individuals", including MPs and senior police officers, to a paedophile ring but no further action was taken Alleged alteration of a child sex abuse victim's account to remove the name of a senior politician Alleged child sex abuse by a senior politician and a subsequent cover-up of the alleged crimes Claims that a surveillance operation of a child abuse ring was shut down due to "high-profile people being involved" An allegation that police officers sexually abused a boy and carried out surveillance on him http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31907201

Panic on the streets of London?...
'Detectives who had gained evidence of child abuse against the Liberal MP Cyril Smith and a member of the intelligence services were threatened with the Official Secrets Act if they did not drop the case, a police whistleblower has claimed. The undercover police operation was scrapped shortly after detectives moved in to make arrests, the police source told BBC’s Newsnight programme. Police officers questioned Smith during the inquiry in the early 1980s, which targeted properties in south London where it was suspected sex parties were hosted involving teenage boys, but he was released within hours of being taken to a police station, it said. Smith and others were caught abusing children, but officers were ordered to hand over all their evidence – including notebooks and video footage – and warned to keep quiet about the investigation or face prosecution under the Official Secrets Act.' http://www.theguardian.com/politics/...-whistleblower

We may never know the full facts in this case and more importantly who was involved. The suspects are possibly very high up in the Govt and or may be high level Judges/Police Chiefs/Barristers etc...
So the truth will never be known as no investigation will ever be allowed to uncover the truth. This is upsetting for the alleged victims but as our National security could be affected by this case then I'm afraid it's time to move on as nobody will be allowed to dig too deep.

I know terrible isn't it, but these are very powerful people and collectively they hold all the reins of power even more so if the security services are involved.
Good luck to anyone who thinks they can take on the Govt and it's security agencies. I think you will hit a brick wall in more ways than one.

We only know about the dead ones... We want to know about the ones still living.
Keeping the pressure on... tom_watson ✔ @tom_watson Follow It is now clear that @David_Cameron should publicly lift the threat of the Official Secrets Act to former officers who investigated abuse. John Mann MP ✔ @JohnMannMP Follow Why did Tories and Lib Dems vote down my amendment on immunity from prosecution re Official Secrets Act on child abuse evidence last month? http://www.theguardian.com/politics/...-whistleblower

This will only come out when the last of the offenders are dead and even then the families may be so powerful that even then it will stay covered up.
Sad for the victims but too much at stake to open this particular can of worms.
