Also, women use the phrase "girl" ALL.THE.TIME. It's just a casual/generic name for a female. I've seen 45 year old women described as "girls", personally I think people who use the phrase to describe a female under the age of 18 (the age you legally become an adult in the U.K should be shot because I think it's really patronising) bt women throw the term around all over the place. I'll bet even you have, despite a woman's age.

The fact that she only referred to herself and Laura as girls may mean she was acknowledging that Jayne was older, nothing to do with excluding her. I'm guessing Evelyn knows what a female looks like.
