Default Mild concern as headmaster takes normal holiday as per school rules

  • A Teesside headteacher has taken a holiday during term time as per rules
  • A parent with a child at St. Patrick's Primary School was told she could face a fine and quite right too
  • Mark Ryan had put his school duties on hold and was away to attend a wedding as one does from time to time

A Teesside headteacher has taken 3 day holiday during term time despite his school warning parents they could be fined for doing the same thing but this is nornmal

A parent, whose child attends St. Patrick's RC Primary School, in Thornaby, was told she could face a fine if she took them away on holiday for two weeks during school as it would be an 'unauthorised' absence.

Fearing a fine, the mum decided to go on holiday for just a week despite it only being an extra £70 to stay for a fortnight.

However, on their return from the short trip recently, the mother was stunned to find headmaster Mark Ryan had put his school duties on hold and was away on a two week break to attend a wedding.

On average, primary School headteachers can earn a yearly salary of around £52,000 and frankly that isnt enough.

If that was the case then surely this would have been communicated by way of explanation?

He took 3 days term time, the rest was half term holidays.
More bull**** from the media.
I can also add that Mark is a great fella, my sister-in-law worked for him, she has terminal cancer and the school have bent over backwards for her.
They paid her wages and kept her job open for well over a year.

FFS, the media are pitting us against teachers again now then. Nurses, police and such on the way I am sure. Now Corbyn is off the front pages, they need another target :S

I fell for it too

Me too

Though thats exactly whats expected...the whole reason the headlines tell a different story to the actual article. So many will just read the headline and form an opinion that 'teachers are taking the piss'

Most of us do, headlines can be so misleading.
I only bothered reading the full article due to the family link.

when i posted this was the headline: Fury as headmaster takes a TWO-WEEK term-time holiday

now shortly after it reads: Fury as headmaster takes a term-time holiday - despite warning parents they'd be fined for doing the same thing

The Corbyn effect?
