Default "Like topsy it just grew"

My dad was a bit of a genius. Incredible man, so honest kind and generous almost to a fault and when I'd rant away about the world and the endless injustices ...My dad, a wisened man surrounded his whole life by books, studies, hard work and family....He would sometimes turn to me and say, dont be angry, its not always one persons fault or anyones fault, "Like topsy it just grew" I believe this term originated in a harriet beecher novel and kipling poems too over 100 years ago

My dad had a knack of having the right phrase at hand, he loved Churchill and his endless witty phrases and inspiring speeches...Loved Nelson too and read me enid blyton books too, she was always my favourite. Brer rabbit taught me more about business degree ever did lol My dad would often have some smart ambiguous phrase of advice at the ready, that would stop me in my tracks and make me think.

We often look for people to blame, a scapegoat, or a conspiracy theory whether its someone in the media or a political leader or whoever. Sometimes the problem is the individual but often it isnt just an individual but the system itself. It just sort of grows out of control by itself. Its vital to keep looking at that system and those laws they pass in parliament, to see how years later they affect the masses at grass roots level.

Another favourite of his was "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"...Again so true. Some times tough love is better than free love

Another he told me from Lloyd George was "The finest eloquence is that which gets things done; the worst is that which delays them....he also said something along the lines of "Liberty is not just a right, its a habit we must acquire" There are of course 100s more...

These great phrases can really help find some perspective. I hope as our language gets dumbed down and we as a people get more hyped up by the mass media and internet algorhithms where we gravitate only to seaches online that agree with our own opinions....We clearly need to think of these wise words to help us keep some perspective , things are not always black or white or as simplistic as slogans would suggest...Let's keep these great people and their wisdom and thoughtful words in mind.
