It might be overheating and it needs a service. If it still under guarantee take it back and get it fixed if not you could be in for a big bill since the whole machine will need to be disassembled, the heat sink cleaned and refitted to the processor which is deep inside the laptop.
Sorry it's not good news. |

Yeah, the most likely problem is that it is overheating. This happened to both my laptop and computer... computer however because bits of fluff from the carpet got stuck inside, so the computer couldn't stay on for too long and kept shutting down! With your laptop, where do you use it? Sometimes it's a safer option to use it on a desk or something, because I used to use mine on a bed which meant it overheated more. So your best bet would be to have it serviced, which doesn't take too long and it's better to sort it out now.

Must have a CD-writer if not a DVD-writer. Just stick it on a desk or bare wooden table and get the data off the machine. It will only overheat while the processor is being heavily loaded, hence the crashes while playing games and doing graphics. While your burning CD/DVD most of the activity is in the form of disk access and the processor is lightly loaded. It should be fine for a while under those conditions. Just to be sure use a re-writable CD or DVD, depending on the drive so that if it does crash you don't waste a disk. Once you know it will work long enough to burn a disk then you can use write once disks giving it off time between burns to let the machine cool down again.
Another method if you have a stand alone machine to is to back-up over a network. If you do this you will need a wired network connection for speed. You can do it by setting up the home networking under XP. |
