Default Orkney\'s most famous resident!

From today's Scottish Daily Record

THE Big Brother boys couldn't believe it when Cameron told them he has never eaten a kebab.

The Orkney fish trader admitted he hasn't travelled much - and housemate Gos was shocked at how much it cost the 32- year-old Scot just to reach London.

Cameron told the lads: "I got down to Glasgow which cost £350 and then got a flight down here which was another £178."

London chef Gos said: "£350? Wow. Sh*t man - you're having me on."

Cameron looks set for stardom when he returns to his native isles.

Fellow Scot Federico said: "I think it's class that you're here all the way from Orkney on this show.

"You'll be Orkney's most famous patriarch. The greatest-ever resident."

Jon said: "They will probably end up giving you the keys to Orkney."

Awww, bless. Cameron must be finding the whole experience a bit bewildering - Orkney's a VERY LONG way from London, both in terms of distance and lifestyle.

I think he's doing great!

More info on Cameron from the Record:

CAMERON Stout has swapped selling salmon for life in the Big Brother goldfish bowl.

The 32-year-old from Orkney was one of two Scots to enter the Channel 4 reality show's house last night.

Orkney was buzzing with excitement at Cameron's television debut - but stunned that the quiet, religious, fish trader had even put his name forward.

One pal joked: "Cameron's a monger ... I think Big Brother is more used to mingers like Jade."

Others feared he wouldn't know what had hit him. And even one of his best mates hoped he got knocked out early, before the exposure "spoiled" him.

Cameron, of Harray, near Stromness, plays piano at Baptist Church singalongs. He also helps run the local Boys' Brigade

But he's not the first in his family to make it on to the TV screen.

His little brother, Julyan Sinclair, won a Scottish BAFTA new talent award last year for best TV presenter.

Cameron, who is single, lives near his parents John and Doris and looks in on them twice a day when he's at home. He buys and sells fish for a New York company, trading by phone and internet.

Friends are shocked that the quiet cello-player has taken the plunge on a fly-on-the-wall show set to be the most sizzling yet. One old school pal said: "Cameron is quite religious and I honestly don't think anyone would have a bad word to say against the guy.

"He was very clever at school, maybe even a bit of a swot. I'm absolutely stunned to hear he's going on to that show. God help him."

Cameron's mum and dad were keeping tight-lipped about his success last night.

But one of his closest friends was happy to sing his praises. Carrie Stockan went to school with Cameron. She and her husband James help run the Baptist Church in Stromness. She knew he had applied to Big Brother - but had no idea he'd been chosen.

When the Record broke the news, she gasped: "No way! So that's where he's been. No wonder he didn't say. I'm so glad you phoned. That's incredible." She added: "James and I are among his closest friends and we didn't know. He's obviously had to keep this very quiet."

Carrie revealed she tried to persuade Cameron to give Big Brother a body- swerve. She said: "I was one of the ones saying to him, `Don't go in for it.' I didn't want him to. I was worried he would get on. I just think he's such a nice person and often these programmes take you to bits. And I said to him, `Don't do it because you're too nice to go on these programmes."

She added: "Cameron is into cars a lot. He doesn't buy them but he used to know all the number plates on Orkney. A car would pass and I would say, `Who's that?' And he'd be able to tell you immediately who it was."

Carrie said Cameron was "so different" from brother Julyan. She said: "Julyan is so extrovert, Cameron's not. He is a homely kind of buddy. Cameron is very close to his parents and lives in his granny's old house. He loves Orkney. That's why I was surprised when he applied to Big Brother. I said to him, `You'll never cope.'

"I said to him the other problem was that there would be so many people on Orkney watching Big Brother that nothing will get done up here. Everybody will be wanting to watch it. Cameron is such a nice person but I just think he shouldn't be on that programme.

"He's just such an unlikely candidate. He's quite quiet. I hope he gets knocked out early but I don't think the show will spoil him ... but I suppose it could, couldn't it?"

Quizzed about Cameron's love life, Carrie laughed: "I won't name his ex-girlfriends, that wouldn't be fair. He's had girlfriends. There's one that comes to mind but she's away from Orkney just now."

Brother Julyan once admitted that he was so desperate to make it onto TV that he hired a speech coach to tone down his Orkney accent. He said: "I told them I didn't want to change my accent but they burst out laughing. They said that even if I had coaching from a team of 10 working 12 hours a day for six months, I'd never lose my accent. But if people think my accent is strong, they should hear my big brother."

Julyan has gone on to interview some of the top names in showbiz, including Jack Nicholson, Samuel L Jackson and Pierce Brosnan.

Cameron was joined in the Big Brother house by Glasgow waiter Federico, 23, who used to work in a New York cocktail bar. Staff at the Pulcinella Italian restaurant in Glasgow, where Federico works, were staying tight-lipped last night.

INSIDE KNOWLEDGE

LIVING in Orkney might just give Cameron the advantage over his Big Brother rivals.

Former contestants have complained there's nothing to do and the days are too long. Orkney's high latitude means long days in the summer - and sometimes it's light all night.

Sometimes, the Big Brother housemates get bored and sit around drinking all night. In Orkney ... well, the occasional nip has been taken.

In the show, contestants are cooped with just a few other faces. There are just 24 Orcadians on the three-mile-long island of Papa Stour - double the population of the BB House - but they all get along.

I'm not sure how he would get to Glasgow, perhaps a ferry across from Stromness and then a train? £350 seems an awful lot, though.

Whatever, I'm SO glad he's in the BB house because I think he's lovely and he's still my favourite at the moment.

I find myself liking Cameron too - it's harder doing something like B i would guess, if you're nor naturally a loud extrovert type!
