whenever it gets dark? maybe I'm missing the point but I thought they were light dependent and were turned on once it became dark? Or am I making that up?

On a similar note, I just find it quite cool when you see street lights turn off or on, but ESPECIALLY off. Like when you've been awake all night and you notice it getting lighter and the street lights turning off in front of your own eyes... very nice

I honestly think we should just get rid of street lights. I can see just fine on country roads and all the do is ruin the night sky and stop me from seeing stars. plus they contribute to global warming. every hour should be earth hour
