Default What\'s the official TIBB position on homophobic content?

Do we click on the 'Report' button if we see a homophobic post? Is it even prohibited, given that it doesn't seem to be (along with racism) mentioned in the Rules at all? "Don't post anything offensive" is very much open to interpretation, after all.

Clicking on the Report button in itself is fairly problematic, too. There's no real reference to base a situation on. Sometimes you get a reply, sometimes you don't. I appreciate that the same post may be reported umpteen times over, that some people will use it for silly reasons, and some may even use it by mistake. But an acknowledgement of some sort would be nice, even if it's just a stock copy & paste (from an actual member of staff of course, rather than an automated response). Otherwise, how do we know whether we were right to hit the button at all, whether it's been dismissed as backseat moderation, or if the report has even been read?

I also saw a homophobic post and thought pretty much the same thing as CharlotteSometimes. I found it offensive, but have found that reporting it seems to do very little. Site Admins?

No offence Sammy, but with the timezone difference (the UK is 5 hours ahead of Canada, right?) I wouldn't expect anyone to be around right now. I did spot Lance a little earlier, but the poor kid has done so much media work lately he's probably browsing on auto-pilot / writing his autobiography! I didn't click on this occasion, because the member concerned has 18 posts written in text speak, 3 of which are homophobic. I don't think it will be too long until a member of staff spots that particular situation.

No offence taken. I believe its 7 hours difference in my part of Canada. I didn't expect an immediate response, within 48 hours is more than sufficient for me. I don't expect Admins to be trolling every thread continually. Just find it amazing that in light of whats happened in BB8 and CBB last January that race issues are full on addressed but it is still ok for homophobic remarks to appear. Believe me, I do realize the mentality of the people that post comments like those I'm referring to, although stupidity and ignorance are not a valid excuse in my view. Just hope that something is done to remove those remarks fairly swiftly. Its a shame that I joined only this evening and in the 2nd thread I read, I came across this. I hope this isn't a common comment here.

It's best to click the report button if you think any post could be found offensive, in whatever way: homophobic, racist or anything that could potentially offend members.

The reports are sent to every moderator to check out. We may not always reply, but we do make a decision as to whether or not the post is suitable. If it isn't, then it is edited accordingly.

I'd say 99.9% - if not 100% - of reported posts are read by a member of the Admin. Team. Not all of them, as I've already said, need to be edited.

I think Rule H: "Administrators of them forum have the right to delete, modify or change the content of any post at any time for any reason without notification to anyone." pretty much covers everything.

Obviously, we can't look through every single post everyday... there's too many. We do out best, but the report button is there for users to help us out in making sure there is nothing offensive posted on the board.

So, to sum it up, anything you would consider to be homophobic should be reported and it will be dealt with ASAP by a moderator.

I had just come home from a night out. Wasn't really in the state to moderate.

I was the first Moderator to see your reported post when I logged in this morning and I dealt with it before I did anything else.

Sometimes early in the morning there are no Moderators on the board. We don't operate any kind of shift system. Most of the time there is at least one Moderator on the board but complete coverage can't be guaranteed. None of us are paid for our work and we give our time freely.

Thank you Lance and Red. Checked first thing this morning and the remark had been removed. I'm pleased it was dealt with so quickly and feel much better about joining with the knowledge that it will be dealt with if it happens to occur again.

And thanks Kristen. Unfortunately its a very small avatar even spent hours trying to resolve the size of it, but it was stubborn!
