I've re-watched this series, and I still didn't get the Aisleyne fascination second time around as well as the first.

She was definitely support cast.

Her/Nikki was THE defining conflict of the series, she had loads of on/off relationships with most of the cast, was frequently positively or negatively speculated by others around her, and she pretty much was the center-piece of the post-Nikki weeks of the show.
