If you mean like they miss their flight due to traffic etc then the plane crashes, I would put it down to good fortune and date.

What about the exact opposite ??

Nearly every tragic accident , say road accidents could be said to be incredibly / ridiculously UNLUCKY given that a split second earlier or later and there wouldn't have been any impact or accident.
