[The findings of a five-year investigation
into the maternity scandal at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust lead the front page of the Sunday Times. The paper says the inquiry will report this week that 300 babies died or were left brain damaged because a "fixation on natural births" meant their mothers were denied caesarean sections.]

Im surprised this isn't countrywide if I'm honest. We all know how stretched the NHS is, and a cesarean is a surgery with risk involving using a theatre, and a lot of clinical staff. I would have thought it's a given that that would not be an option unless absolutely necessary?
Surely it's the consultants and nor the trust who advise on individual labours and how at risk the birth is?

I think this is designed to erode trust and support for the NHS.
The issue is not care it's funding or the use of funding.

The hospital's misplaced pride in their high rate of natural births and dogged determination that everyone will give birth naturally, caused the death of these babies. I had an emergency c section, I know lots of women who have. To have been denied that help by professionals whose job it is to make sure you and your baby are safe must have been enraging and terrifying. I hope jobs are lost over this.
