Default What are your thoughts on neem oil?

This thread is probably too intelligent for TiBB, but I'll ask anyway

So my plants have been giving me gip

Little bugs the bastards.

So I went on t'interweb and googled. Neem oil is suppose to be a good pesticide. You make a bottle using a tea spoon of neem oil, a squirt of the slippery stuff and the rest water in a 1 litre bottle. I have dosed my plants liberally with this concoction and it seems to work then the bastards come back.

Also, as the neem oil smells of garlic I can't get the smell off my hands, it takes repeated washing and even then it still lingers...

So have you used neem oil before and what are your thoughts?

You've got garlic wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger?
Do have to, do you have to, do you have to let it Linger?

Can you not just use tea-tree/jojoba essential oil?

If the neem oil isn't working, you could try cherie oil as as an alternative

The neem oil, you need some neem sprinkled over your rusty grill to smooth it all over.

Tee tree & JoJo are really nourishing, I know they help on human hair & skin. But I think it's just as beneficial on plants. It's like Aloe Vera oil that's another good one.

Yeah, don’t just take it from a neurotic Brian Griffin-esque crank. Do your own research, innit.

That and the fact that they’re natural and time-tested insect (and rodent) repellents that don’t smell funny.

If he patterns himself a good bottle of tea-tree/Jo-Jo (as GoldHeart put it) he’ll not only have an bug repellent but something to help him deep-clean his house, moisturise his hair and skin and keep summer mice at bay. And only a fiver from Boots it is.
