Default West Bromwich: Man slumped over a table in a hospital coffee shop, Dead for 3 Hours

[A 36-year-old man, from Birmingham,
died in the coffee shop in the main
reception area of Sandwell General Hospital,
West Bromwich on July 10 this year]

He had been there for more than 3 hours
as Regis mortis set in...........

This is shocking
make a rule
if someone spends an hour there
check if they want a Tea or Coffee.

[The man had been treated by medical staff
at Sandwell General Hospital before being
discharged and referred to Hallam Street Hospital,
an adult mental health facility located
directly across the street.

The coffee shop is reportedly regularly
used by homeless people, sources said,
alleging that this 'could have been a factor
in why he was not checked by passing staff'.

A spokesman for Sandwell and
West Birmingham NHS Trust told The Times
it is 'investigating the circumstances
around the sad, sudden death of a man
on our hospital site' and that the
'coroner has been informed.'

A spokesman for the
Black Country Healthcare Trust
added: 'We are currently investigating
the circumstances surrounding
this situation,
our thoughts are with the family
during this difficult time.']

What an unfortunate story.

And definitely doesn't help with my personal phobia of Hospitals.

[The Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital Trust care
for roughly 25,000 emergency and urgent
care patients each month.

It was reportedly last inspected
by the Care Quality Commission in 2019,
where it was rated outstanding for caring.
It also required improvement in areas including
safety and responsiveness of services.

The trust reported a Ł10million deficit
in May this year, which is allegedly
in line with many other
NHS trusts across the country.
The trust also wants to cut the
equivalent of at least
150 full-time staff.

3 hours is shocking, someone with head down on a table in a hospital should be an immediate concern but in ANY coffee shop etc. someone there for more than 30-45 mins is a lot. And hour+ a real concern. 3 hours is mind-boggling.

To be fair the people staffing the coffee shop are going to be min wage staff with no medical training but in a hospital there should be some sort of policy in place & someone from the hospital team to flag if they have medical concerns about a customer, surely.

You can not blame Costa Coffee,
as they are used to Homeless going in.
According to the reporter,
at least they asked the security to check him.

Regis mortis
told the NHS staff
it was more than 3 hours.

This story doesn't surprise me. If I had been asked, in which kind if establishment would you imagine a dead body could lie undiscovered for hours? I'd have said, an NHS hospital.
