People dislike them because for some, "being normal" is being heterosexual, nothing else. The notion of "normal" doesn't exist properly and loads of people don't understand that.
In societies, people used to see heterosexual couples and for them, that is normal, so everything which does change is unnaceptable. The same thing happened with black or arabian people and does happen nowadays too.
Our generation, young people accept that because we are in that culture, being tolerant is really important today as our societies see changes.

Some people have a problem with gay people becuase there not the same as them.Basically their just ignorant ,narrow minded people,i think in some cases straight guys are intimidated by gay guys,i cant really figure out why i think it might be becuase you get alot of eccentric gay blokes and some straight guys are jealous of their confidence.I dont know, just a thought
Every person who ive ever met whos been gay has always been really friendly, they just seem to want to get along with everyone and they dont judge us coz were straight so why should we judge them?

Basically Homophobics are all cowards..The same as racists. They are just frightened because being Gay is not what they know.

One of my Brothers is Gay..He came out years ago and I wouldn't have him any other way! I can go shopping with him and he doesnt moan about waiting around!

A short answer.

Because they're 'different'.

The same reason why people make fun of relgion and race.

It's really sad. Homphobics make me so angry

We shouldn't really think of them as gay people...
It sounds like we're addressing them as different. Ie. "those gays"
They just have different sexual preferences that's all.

We don't go around saying "those bondage people" or "those roleplaying people" anywhere near as much, so we shouldn't need to do it for homosexuals either.

Anyone ive ever come across who is a gay man though, has always been really nice and usually slightly feminate with makeup etc.

Whereas any lesbians ive come across are either really good looking man haters, or women who have short hair and wear mens clothes? and no makeup?

It does baffle me as to why the majority of gay men lean towards being like women, and the majority of lesbians lean towards being like men?
It's almost like a trans-gender thing.

But yea, people who hate gay people are usually narrow minded and can't find it within their brains to come to understand something that's different.

I didnt implicate anything in my post as to differenciate homosexual people from heterosexual people. - men and women who are gay, are 'Gay People', Whats wrong with calling them that? - Im not stereotyping them, nor am i "classing them" as being different. Everyone is equal.

Lol calm down there =] Im not looking for an argument, ive had enough of those lately.
I was mainly addressing someone who said "wooo big up gays" or something along those lines. So there's no need to get defensive.

And I myself said "gay people" so if I was having a go at you for anything, id be contradicting myself.

I was just saying, we should THINK of them less as "gay people"
But of course we have to type "gay people"when referring to them.

Their sexuality doesn't define who they are, so we don't have to look at them and think "gays" is what I was trying to say.

And the people who can't do that, are usually the one's who dislike them.

People are coming to terms with it more and more these days; as a result, I seem to notice more people who aren’t heterosexual – although that may well be because they don’t feel scared to speak up anymore. So I wouldn’t say people ‘dislike’ them, it’s just that they find it difficult to accept with it being different from the norm. Anyone who gives people with different sexual preferences a hard time (unkindly) is showing bullying qualities, something which unfortunately exists in some people… and their targets may well be different for any reason.

It’s not so much the same as racial discrimination in the sense that I know of people who are hesitant simply because they’ve been brought up with quite strong religious (Catholic) beliefs. But I think you should accept people for their personalities, as everyone is entitled to make their own decisions. I’m friends with a few people outside this area who happen to be either bisexual or gay.

That being said...you can't ignore homophobic people?
There are plenty of people who beat up homosexuals whilst out getting drunk etc. And also people who find homosexuals disgusting.

A surprisingly large amount of older people are homophobic due to them being "set in their ways" and growing up in a society years ago where homosexual people weren't that common.

There's also a lot of young kids and teenagers who are uneducated on the subject and dislike gay people/pick on them etc.

Racial discrimination is highly frowned upon, much more so than homosexual discrimination. So sometimes less is done when someone who is homosexual suffers abuse in the streets, either verbal/physical.
