There seems to be a lot of hatred for him. It's certainly not because of talent/lack of talent because he's definitely one of the best contestants in terms of talent.

The comments I have read say he is arrogant, smug, cocky etc. But why do people think this? Did I miss something, what did he say or do that was so bad? Why do people think he is arrogant?

And why do people think the way Sharon tries to humiliate him is justified?

There's a difference between confidence and too much confidence.

By vitriol I mean that there is a lot of hatred and bitterness aimed towards him.

I agree with Billy and Noel, I wonder if Sharon's bitching wasn't shown whether or not people would have such opinions on Rhydian.

And yes, there's a line between confidence and arrogance, but personally I think he has confidence. He hasn't said or done anything to suggest he is arrogant, he just knows what he can do and that he is good (which he is), which to me, is confidence.

He has confidence and even if he is arrogant then he is able to back that up and he's not gave a bad performance yet. However, I don't think he is arrogant, from stuff I've seen of him he seems like a nice lad, no different to others but I think that most people already has a negative view on him because of the way he was edited and they're sticking with that.

i dont like rhydian cos of how he is always saying how great he is and i dont like ppl who always have to say stuff like that cos it makes them seem relly bigheaded.

I think in the past he was a bit over confident but I think he's seen that it won't do him too many favours so has toned things down.He's got talent though so at least he backs up some of the things he says.

It is quite unfair, but I think every reality TV show has to have its hate figure, I'm afraid. Although I'm not sure previous series' of the X Factor have had one...

He's a decent guy I think, and I don't think his confidence should be put as a negative quality. At least he's not a quivering wreck and can FINISH a song, unlike some of the contestants. *cough* LUKE *cough*

Because people have different taste and different opinion was what "talent" is. I don't like Rhydain. I don't like his voice and don't think he is talented. Where as I think Nikki has a natual talent.

Yeah, I see. That's different I guess, as you don't like him because you don't like him as a singer, but there have been a lot of nasty comments about him as a person, which I don't understand.

I actually quite liked him tonight, even though I thought I was going to hate him. He sang well and performed with confidence, unlike others who were too nervous and had sob stories. I didn't like his hair though.

Sharon is very two faced aswell. She was calling him revolting and disgusting backstage & then she was being nice to his face. If i was Rhydian i wouldn't be interested in her comments after what she had said!

Why Sharon is calling him names and slating him behind his back I have no idea..

I think the general treatment of him is a bit unfair. Since I have no favourites yet, I certainly wouldn't say I personally disliked him. The song choice etc. for him is not purely his decision.

Also, he's a bit different which I don't think should be considered as a bad thing in a show like TXF. What amuses me about him is that he literally seems to have no qualms with whatever's thrown his way - he just gets on with it.

I'm not keen on his voice yet, it's a bit too much. Plus he did no favours with his hairstyle and outfit yesterday (White blonde hair GELLED UPWARDS?! For the love of god!)

However i did have an inkling of liking for him yesterday so in a few weeks time i could be singing to a different tune.
