Default American Shows or British Shows?

Which TV shows do you prefer? American or British?

They've got the likes of Desperate Housewives, Lost, Heroes, Ugly Betty, Prison Break etc.

We've got shows like Doctor Who.. erm.. X Factor, Big Brother, etc.

Which country do you think has the better shows?

America has really good shows, but the quality of British shows is outstanding. The scripts, directing etc is far better than America. Our primetime shows are more serious (Dramas not Reality TV).

I couldnt think of many British dramas.. so sorry for the lack of them in the original post.

I love some American shows but sometimes I just dont find the humour that funny but I do love Ugly Betty. And its funny that two of Americas top shows, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, are imports of our shows.

It depends. I take it your talking about fictional comedies and dramas? Americans tend to throw more money at shows so the production values are often much higher for imported show. Having said that British show tend to be more reaistic. Personally, I prefer American show like Sopranos, the Shield and the Wire to their counterparts. I agree With MarkChap, due to the higher production values American shows tend to be better acted, scripted and directed than British shows.

Ameircan shows are fantastic, they make them real good and they tend to put in lots of effort into make them great. But, in all honesty, for me I prefer good ol' British shows.

I watch more British shows than American, but find the American ones better in general.

(I exclude reality TV shows in that statement )

I think in general, British dramas are more based on real life happenings, eg. kidnappings, deaths, theres loads of them on ITV, which are either one off dramas, or six parters.

Youve also got soaps, and continuing dramas.

Where as, American dramas are usually based on more fictional topics and have a bigger budget and are usually better. Not to mention they run for like 23 weeks often with gaps between episodes.
