Friend fears Cerys’s heart will be hurt in jungle

ONE of Cerys Matthews’ closest friends has confessed he fears the Welsh singing star may get her fingers burnt after apparently falling for former EastEnders actor Marc Bannerman.

Recently divorced Cerys and Bannerman were seen gazing into each others eyes and whispering a series of inaudible endearments to each other like a pair of love struck teenagers on Monday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

Bannerman’s furious partner Sarah Matravers flew out to Australia yesterday and told waiting journalists she wanted to “throttle him”.

Emyr Penlan, who has been close to Cerys for around 10 years, said the former Catatonia star’s feelings for Bannerman appear genuine.

He said yesterday, “I was watching last night with a big smile on my face thinking,

‘She’s falling for him’.

“If it turns out good then I couldn’t be happier for her, but the only thing that concerns me a little bit is whether it’s genuine on his part or it all goes sour afterwards.

“But she’s single so she can do what she likes for a while.”

Penlan, from Cardigan, who presents S4C’s Ralio, said he believes Cerys is unaware that Bannerman is involved with someone else as she’s not the type to break up a relationship.

A spokesperson for the show said they were “positive” Bannerman spoke about his girlfriend in the camp before the flirting began to intensify on the ITV1 show.

But Cerys’ sister Rhiannon ruled out a big romance with Bannerman after they leave the Celebrity jungle.

She said her 38-year-old sister is “just having a bit of fun” with Marc, 34.

Rhiannon, 40, said, “We only get to see what the TV producers want us to see.

“They are a long way from home and like the mutual support for each other.”

Rhiannon also dismissed speculation that Cerys had breast implants before entering the jungle.

“She definitely hasn’t. Cerys has always been conscious about the way she looks. I think she looks very fit and healthy.”

But Rhiannon knows Cerys is missing her two children, Glenys, four, and Johnny, two, who are being looked after by her parents in Trefin, Pembrokeshire.

She said, “We’ll all go over to meet her when she comes out. The children are coping fine.”

Cerys has missed out of on I’m a Celebrity after spending the last five years in America with ex-husband Seth Riddle. And it was Rhiannon who persuaded her to go into the show when she was offered a chance.

She said, “She’s never even heard of the show until she came back to Wales earlier this year. I told her straight away that she had to do it. It was a great chance for her to remind people who she is.”
