I had to do a piece of coursework on this. I think NI should be part of Ireland.

So did I!

I say it should remain as it is, at least for the next decade or two.

Rightfully its Ireland , but its come too far now. There are two ignorant camps routinely pissing on each other and theirs no end in sight. Theirs no true compromise that will satisfy everyone save for making it independent.

a hundred years ago or whatever it was irish children where forced to speak english and the men where forced to work for the british army or else they die.IMO those six counties where stole from Ireland and the whole irish culture has been ruined.and if NI came back to Ireland they weed be sure the IRA is over.

I think it should stay part of the UK. We need the money and forces. And if we went independant, I think we'd never survive!

I agree. Great Britain conquered nearly three quarters of the world once 'Australia', 'Canada', 'America', 'India' to name but a few...Today we dont have much left and what little we do have...we must keep hold of. Even if it means going to war or risking bombing.

I agree with you to a certain extent but we are better off with the english language as opposed to that archaic , useless crap being shoved down our throats in schools.

Speaking Irish would essentially cut us off from the rest of the world.

It would a whole lot easier if we were just one country. But I think its far too complicated now to change it.

I dont like people using the word conqured. It sounds like we're your prisoner that way. In truthfulness, I guess after a few thecnical issues and if there wasnt so much sectarianism, we could split when ever we want to.

So your political reasoning is to keep it as a silly little monument to your once great empire?

Poor England. Here. Take Northern Ireland. Take the republic too! You guys need it more than we do!

America is ancient history. The english helped build America. Thats a different story. It was ages ago , not relatively modern history. As far as I know , Canada and Australia are both happy to be part of the British Commonwealth. Northen Ireland is a different story. There is some clear resistance there for the past..oh I dont know...100 years?

I think it would be difficult for them to govern themselves, since (I'd guess) industry and economic sources aren't exactly widespread.

I'm all for them deciding themselves though. Tbh I don't know a lot about the history involved.

Same here. And thats a great point about it being difficult for them to survive themselves. But hey , luxembourg can do it. Sure , they will probably live off exporting and importing to england and ireland , but at least they will be free.

I don't really have an opinion since I didn't study the topic enough to talk about it clearly with all the cards in my hands. I know the headlines but not in details and many people are definately better than me on that subject.

I covered this subject at school and it also got quite passionate as their was this Irish kid full of attitude...who put up a serious fight. I shall say now what I said then...We here in Great Britain are proud to own England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. All are part of Great Britain and are we going to give Northern Ireland back to the Irish...'are we bu**ery'. Whats ours is ours. Would those who reside in Southern Ireland like to give their independance back to Great Britain...No they wouldnt. Whats theres is theres and they cling onto it for dear life. Not only that...but history has told us quite clearly that the Irish Republican Army chose to plant bombs to get what they want...<all of Ireland>

Northern Ireland is part of Great Britain, Southern Ireland is independant. Why should it change for gods sake...Does it really matter. Im sure they are used to it by now. If they have been complaining for a 100 years, then whats wrong with another 100 years? at least Gerry Adams and co are doing something to aid the peace process God knows what like. 'Im sure they just tell us what they want us to know' . I was only using Great Britains ancient past of owning other countries as an example of how far we got and how little we are now. Even less now we are part of Europe.

Stay as it is, but I think NI are sidelined a lot... like in the 6 nations they have an the tricolour flag as representing the Irish team despite some of them being from NI too - wheres the red hand?
