Americas Got Talent isn't on daily, its on ITV2 and I don't think its in the same time slot so its not going to affect the ratings. It doesn't get anywhere near what BGT gets I think its get 1-2 million

I have a feeling we will get an average of about 3.3 million. If the series get 4m+ that would be amazing.

Doesn't News At 10 get quite high ratings? Some nights it gets 6 million+ when there is big news.

BB has been on for 9 years now. If BGT is still around in 9 years time i would guarantee that it would get less than 5 million. BGT is fresher and is more new. It happens to every show. An example is ER, it reached its highest pount in its 2nd or 3rd year with 30 million viewers in the US, the current series is averaging under 9 million, so that is more than triple the audience lost. So, all shows lose their audience, BB has been fantastic by keeping the good ratings. In 2000 it got 4.6 million average and in 2007 it got a 3.9 million average.700,000 viewers lost is nothing in the space of 8 years.

because it is the show which has had the biggest impact on this country. I think it has learnt people to be accepting and I believe it has changed peoples views many kinds of people. There is no other show like it, love it or hate it everyone does have an opinion on it and thats whys its successful, thats why it is the daddy of reality TV. It might not get huge ratings but the amount of media coverage it attracts is amazing I can't think of another show which gets this much media coverage and makes us feel such high emotions for strangers.

It got just over 4m at one point- because there was no news on BBC One at the same time due to a match. Its the BBC News at Ten (as its now called) that gets ratings edging on to 6m.

For Big Brother, ratings are important. Higher ratings means more money from advertisers. More money from advertisers means more money for Channel 4. Therefore higher ratings means programmes are more likely to return, although BB has been confirmed until 2010.

Well the news doesn't really attract the same audience as Big Brither so it really shouldn't have a problem. Also Big Brother is going to be the program in the 10pm slot which attracts more 16-34 year olds which advertisers pay more for.

4m will be the bench mark, but even if the series turns out to be a success for the first few weeks we're probably looking at more the 3.5m mark. Based on previous years, it is likely to come second to the BBC News at 10, but should comfortably beat BBC2, ITV1 and Five - though CSI may provided strong oppostiion. There is Gray's Anatomy on Thursdays too - not sure how popular that is.

The good thing for BB9 though is that Big Brother is only ever really judged in comparison to the previous year, so as long as they beat BB8's ratings, which were considerably lower than any other season, it will be seen as a success.

Knowing nothing about media it would be nice if somebody could explian why ratings seem to be a big deal, this is the only ratonal answer i can think of:

channel 4 must be able to charge more money to advertisers for shows with better rating

however then why dose the bbc chase ratings

confuddled???

Yep, better ratings = more ad revenue. The BBC still need ratings though to show it's worth the licence fee.

4m or so for BB is fine, raising to 5-6m for the big shows and 7-8m for the final is what they should be looking at.

Indeed Big Brother shouldn't be aiming for mass market ratings like Britain's Got Talent - it is supposed to be a cult show aimed at a targeted audience, not something for everyone. They're after good ratings in the 16-34 demographic more than anything, and are quite happy to leave the extra few million over 50's to watching Heartbeat and Corrie.

BGT will be finished before BB airs. It finishes next Saturday or Sunday.

Tonights episode of BGT is the last of the auditions, the live semi-finals start nightly from tommorow, Sunday 25th May through to this Friday, the 30th May. The grand finale is next Saturday, the 31st.

I don't know where everyone is getting the info that BGT will still be airing when BB9 starts. It's a LIE. ITV are captalising on the fact it's a bank holiday and half-term. All the TV guides have these dates, ITV can't change it even if they wanted to.
