Depends on the circumstances really. Although there are now special schools etc., it is still more convenient to learn at home for some students. Some young celebrities need tutors because they cannot go to the school due to their growing careers. In other cases, some children/teens prefer to be home-schooled as they find learning more comfortable in their own environment, and if that’s OK with the parents and feasible for them, then fair enough.

But I do think that if you are given the chance to go to school, you should take it up… simply because the education system provides a lot other than just work – even though that is an integral and the most important part. Often though you don’t realise you’re picking all this up when you’re going to school day in and out, but it is true.

I think having personal tutors on top of schooling is a bit different though. However it does depend on the student, definitely; the conscientious student would probably do all their work, and then use a personal tutor simply to help with difficulties and expand their knowledge further – something which would undoubtedly be advantageous, and if they wish to have one they can.

But for me, I know I'd lose concentration and take the easy option – get them to do the work, whilst I probably zoned out! So even though some friends of mine have used some to help, I knew I wouldn’t use the privilege properly. All of it is about knowing yourself and how you learn.

If you require extra tution for subjects you are having a hard time with then yes. As a replacement for school then no.

Mixing with other children and devoloping friendships is an important part of social education.

Social interaction is a necessity for people to grow, unless you plan on being a hermit, so as a replacement for school ..... no.

Yeah they are. If youve been to a school, and dont liek tit hen I think its a good idea. If, however youve never been I dont think it is

There are exceptions.....

If a child has serious learning difficulties and a low attention span, then sometimes being tutored one to one can help. Also, what would you do if your child was being seriously bullied at school? Many parents have taken their kids out of school to have them privately tutored at home. They are a good idea in some cases, but for the majority, school is the best place to be, interacting with others.

People who claim that homeschoolers have no social life have obviously never been homeschooled themselves.

I don't think they mean no social life at all, but I think they mean you miss the obvious social factors around school i.e. meeting a plethora of new children from different surroundings, creed etc.

Home schooled children can obviously get this too, but it's made harder.

I'd hate to have been home schooled. I liked school, those who are home schooled don't know what they are missing out on

I don't think being home schooled doesn't mean you don't have a social life, I just think it makes it harder.

Like I said, no offense, but it's pretty clear just from this that you've never been homeschooled.
