I was wondering if anyone had an experiences with house training a puppy?

Or can anyone recommend a good training book thats helped them with their dog?

I've owned dogs before but never from a puppy.

I think It's me or the dog you know th C4 show has a book out bit old now though but it might help plus it's for bad dogs but it may have a few tips.

I can't really help with the whole thing cos there are so many branches of it.

I trained my dog from a puppy, and she's "trained" enough to do the basics... sit, lie, paw, comes when you call etc.

The biggest tip I can give you, is to get a spray bottle with water in it. (Make sure it doesn't spray out too powerful though). If your puppy misbehaves with something (i.e. gets hyper - puppies are infamous for this. They get excited, which is fine. But when they get hyper they start chewing things, including your hand!), you shout "NO" sternly and spray it quickly (making sure it's very soon after the 'event').

A similar thing, if you feel uncomfortable spraying your dog with water, is to fill a bottle with pebbles but leave soom room at the top. Again, if the dog misbehaves, then shout "NO" and shake the bottle sharply.

Soon it learns which things are "wrong" and "right".

Finally. Incorporate a reward system with little treats when training it to sit etc. When it does it, immediately give it a treat and shout "Good boy/girl!".

Thanks for the comment. He's booked into a 7 week course of dog training with a good dog school which should really help.

Plus the breeder we're getting him from is excellent and he is already puppy pad trained and is on normal puppy food now. He's been away from his mum at night since he was 5 weeks old so he shouldnt take too long to settle in.

Thanks for the tip on the water thing Lauren. I might just give that a go. I think the sooner we start training him the better he will be.
