Default Ruth\'s second performance did more than get her through the sing off

Shes done two performances that I knew weren't so good and I knew there was a lot more in there. After tonights she did deserve to be in the bottom 2, there was nothing special. But after her performance of Purple Rain I think thats done more than just get her through the sing off, I think that has put her firmly back in the competition and she seemed to gain a lot of crowd support from that. The second one was clearly the best of the night.

Hopefully she'll up her game next week and get herself properly back in the running.

Her performance of Purple Rain was fantastic. I hope we see more of this Ruth.

It would have been a travesty if she was lost to girlband.

I can't believe she was in the bottom 2 to start with. This competition is seriously a close one. Although I'm not a fan of Daniel, I can see where his fanbase comes from - but that's not good news for all the other acts. It just goes to show you can't be sure! I think Ruth has proven now that she is versatile, but it makes her more forgettable... she needs to be unique and come out with a bang next week in order to make people remember her, like she did with this second performance. Simon was actually right in his comments earlier tonight.

I think that all three of the performances she's given in the past two weeks have been great, with the live show one tonight being the worst of the three (in that it was nothing spectacular) but I'm glad she pulled through tonight. I think she'll be fine with Big Band Week, and she should benefit from a vote boost. Hopefully Rachel/Daniel/Scott/Eoghan will be in the bottom two next week, I see them as the weaker contestants in the competition.

She was good but aint_mad_atcha is right, she has her fans who are loyal, so does every other contestant, she wont pick up many more votes.

After her rendition of Purple Rain, when it went to deadlock -- well, if Ruth was sent home it would have been a travesty. Honest.

Its hard to come out of the bottom, after youve been there! MOst Xfactor fans have their favs and stick to them, they dont even consider the performances most times. SO I dont see her getting more votes!
Noone cares in the first couple of weeks. Hope were immensely popular this time last year, look where they ended up- bottom 2 about 3 or 4 times.

Its weeks 3-6 which are the critical weeks where people really begin to see their favourites and back them. I wouldn't write Ruth off just yet. And it never did Ray any harm being in the bottom 2.

Thats more due to the sound levels, they play the backing too loud and don't have the mic turned up loud enough. It happens to most of them.

Very good point - week 3 seems to be a crucial one in the competition, and it's no accident that Big Band is the theme for week 3, because it'll really weed out the average. Ruth will do well next week, and I hope it'll earn her some votes from the floating voters who have no allegiances yet.

Exactly! Once they went in the bottom 2, they were back always. So was aleesha! I predict Ruth will be back there very soon if not next week!

But then, aint_mad_atcha, Hope tended to benefit from the vote boost - the week they were in the bottom two with Beverley and it went to deadlock, everyone was so sure they were going, but somehow they had more votes than her, despite having been in the bottom two the week before that.

What got me was hypocritical Simon Cowell. He said before the final sing off that what really mattered was the the decider songs and then he let it go to deadlock. Clearly Ruth nailed purple rain and he didn't put her through because she didn't listen to him.

Well Mr Cowell your not her bloody mentor so bog OFF!

Some have been in the bottom 2 and gone very far in the competition. Alisha was crap, so were Hope. I'm just showing how you can be extremely popular in week 1 and 2 (ie Hope) and do very well in the competition.

I agree. Plus, how exactly is Ruth meant to perform in Spanish when the show is thematic? There is no opportunity for this under Michael Jackson week, or Big Band week (next week)

I think he needs to back off a little bit, and stop throwing toys out the pram. She doesn't want to typecast herself, IMO.

I have to say though, I was impressed with his comments earlier in the night, since his judgement was spot on. But instead of gloating about it and then not acknowledging how good a performance that was, he should have dealt with the situation better. But that's Simon Cowell for you.

It was just amazing. Her live show performance earlier showed she's versatile, but now she has proven that - she needs to be unique again.

I guarantee you, she is not gonna survive more than 3 weeks!

She cant compete with Laura and Alex mainly, and she got no fan base. Xfactor is all about fan base!

True, but I think she'll make it through next week at least, she'll go in either week 4 or 5, sadly.

How do you know she hasn't just made new fans after that performance? And how do you know Laura and Alex actually have a fan base? You're just assuming. For all we know they could have third and fourth from the bottom and I actually think one of them will make a shock exit in the next 4 weeks.

Leona was already the winner once her series' Big Band Night was over. Dayum, I still remember watching that on TV for the first time. My jaw dropped, it was that good.
