Do a system restore and download AVG Free, its so much better than these paid for antiviruses. Oh and get a Spyware/Malware checker as well, the one I've got is called Spybot Search and Destroy, thats free as well. Then you'll be pretty much OK as long as you keep updating them (which AVG does itself) and scanning (which AVG also does itself every day)

turn it off and back on it should say that theres a problem and most new ones (mine does) offers you a system restore.

If not, hit F12 (Mines f12) to do it that way as its loading up.

it might not be from facebook (though apparently there is a virus going round but I know nothing about it)

Watch out with LimeWire (or Bearshare) as I've lost a PC to those before - too many unsafe files.

Oh and with the new legislation passing your ip's may give up your d/l info so be carefull, run through a proxy is safer nowadays.

Try this, hopefully it might work - its the first of the downloads listed above

right click on it and 'save target as'

http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&siteI...d=3001-2239_4-

see if you can download it via that

been there....

I've had something like this before and had to reformat the HD and lost everything (including an external drive somehow).

First thing I can think of see if the CD drive still works and you can access it. If thats ok then get a mate to download those links and burn them so that you can get to them. (or a usb stick)

Other than that David Im sory, but out of ideas other than take to a shop (im not the best with pcs myself)

if you do have to reformat, you could try (and I don't know if it would work but its an attempt) install a virus checker on a usb drive and then slowly move everything you need onto it whilst checking (or maybe you could even run the program from the drive - theres a thought).

sorry Im not technically helpful rather come up with stupid ideas to try and get around the issues instead of solving it.

You probably will have to reformat it but will lose your stuff if you can't back it up
