I'd rather have someone appointed on merit, not just to fulfil some sort of ethnic quota. Didn't see many ethnics in the higher echelons of Labour Cabinet did we, despite their mealymouthed obeisance to multiculturalism, inclusivity, positive discrimination etc.

Best candidate for the job should get it, irrespective of race, colour, gender, sexual preference or social background. Positive discrimination is STILL discrimination whatever way you want to dress it up.

Never thought I would say that about one of your posts.

The best person for the job should get it. What needs to be ensured is that minorities in government have the same chance as a typical MP at getting a job and that it shouldn't hold them back. But that doesn't mean on the grounds they are a minority that they should be ahead in the queue to get the job. The person who can best do the job should always get it.

In ridings with substantial black or asian populations we saw native 'anglo-saxon' Brits elected.
Well it becomes statistically impossible to suppose a large portion of their votes were from blacks and asians.
So who are you to question their choice?

Britain has as much right to its historical and cultural identity as any other country! I was commenting on LTs sarcastic remark about white Anglo Saxons being the power race in this country - as historically they always have been and you would expect to see more 'white faces' running this country - just as if you go to say India you would expect to see more 'brown faces' running the country! That doesn't mean to say I have anything against people of other races as Members of Parliament in this country - I don't! I was talking about the majority!

See, I dont understand this, the same as I dont understand the 'equality in the workplace' stuff, they say ethnicity doesn't matter, yet they ask on interview forms if you are british/African/chinese or whatever...why? If it doesnt matter?

Anyway, the best person for the job, should get the job simple as. I dont care if the workplace is filled with purple people...a purple person goes for a job, and a green person goes for a job, the purple happens to be more qualified. Is there any reason why the green person should get the job, just because greens are under-represented? and I purposely used dodgy colours...otherwise whichever way I put it would cause arguments...

Its the same principle though. Whoever is best for the job, should get it, simple...or you would think so
