This is really strange though because I had a dream about loads of buildings falling down and crumbling to rubble last night

Yes watched a full clip of that NHK video
on SkyNewsHD
some drivers went over rough ground and got away
I assume older folk in cars did not see it in time and were
picked up with that water force.

I wonder if it will reach California, later
with less force.

I hear the earthquake was 1000 times more powerful than the one which affected Christchurch. - I wonder if the two were related.

There is also a nuclear power plant on alert which could spell even more disaster.

It's currently surging towards USA/Canada/New Zealand/Fiji etc. Could be very devastating.

It'll only hit the west coast. It depends on how much surge the waves have. Not all the west coast will be affected, only parts of it, depends on how the Tsunami travels.

Japanese police have now confirmed that between 200 and 300 bodies have been found on the beach near Sendai, the closest city to the epicentre. NHK television said the victims appeared to have drowned.

This is shocking.

Generally the further the tsunami travels the weaker it gets, so I wouldn't expect the consequences in the US to be too bad

Yeah, it's more low lying countries like Vanuatu that will probably get the most damage. The waves could just go right over the low-lying islands.

People within a three kilometre radius of Fukushima nuclear plant were told to evacuate, those less than 10km away were told stay indoors (don't see how this would help in the event of fallout though).
