I'd say they could definitely put ideas in peoples head, but they've gotta be pretty abnormal to carry them out anyway.

Talking about murder and torture an stuff by the way, not like robbing a shop or whatever.

They could play a big part in how someone goes about committing a certain crime, ie. like Locke said, putting certain ideas into people's heads etc. but those people that do try and recreate something they've seen in a game have to be pretty ****ed in the head in the first place.

But I would argue that alot of people who are vulnerable will be brain washed by playing games like resident evil etc. Then it will cause them to become killers without them knowing what they where doing.

I believe they do cause violence.

It created DRIVE BY shootings in the USA because of GTA.

An increase in gangs etc.

urm, Im pretty sure violent gangs were very prevalent long before violent video games were around. Think youre being a bit naive.

drive by shootings are about rivalries and revenge not video games.

I know what I am talking about.

I don't know.

I think that is what the game is called.

It encouraged people to murder others.

Drive bys were happening long before gta.

I agree with what a few others have said, they may put ideas into a some peoples heads but those people were probably a bit messed up in the first place and would have commited a crime at some point wether they played video games or not.

No, lack of role models, education and opportunities do.

Video game publishers have nothing to apologise for.

Indeed, hence the lack of role models.

Alright, I'm pulling no punches here. Usually it's the sorts of terrible parents who decide to have a kid before learning the most elementary techniques of raising one worth shit who will be the first to externalise and blame other things in the world for their kids turning into brats that hate them. Stories about the links between videogames and violent criminality are manufactured to cater to this 'poor me' complex in parents who despise their own children.

It's the same principle as the hysterical idiots who bought into the story about the MMR vaccine being linked to autism against all the contradictory evidence. Gosh forbid autism could be genetically inherited or that behaviourable problems linked to autism and ADD can be manageable in a supportive family environment and are not the product of some modern day demonic possession.

If anyone is below 18 on this site I want to ask Y'all if your parents have bought you any of these sick twisted games.

Because the parents are to blame too,

Mum let me have Black Ops & Modern Warfare 2, my ONLY games that are above my age limit.

Everyone else I know...just about every game they own is 15/18+ but my mum brought me up well, and she explained she didn't want me playing them because they influence people to do things like murder/steal etc., but she felt I was sensible enough by the age of 13 to not be influenced by any of these things, as they are only games at the end of the day.

But my mum is definitely not a bad parent for letting me have the game, if I went around killing people, I'd only have myself to blame.

To be honest though, it varies. I'm sensible, a lot of people my age are not.

You are the first FM to make me actually laugh

I agree. People who play these games need to find something more better to do in their time.

I fail to see how engaging in an act one enjoys could be seen as a waste of time.

Anyway ... don't feed the troll etc.
