Just wondered whether anyone on here ever went to Dreamland in Margate, Kent?

It's closed now, but they are reopening it in a few years as a historic amusement park with vintage rides etc.

Went to Margate about 10 years ago for a spur of the moment weekend.

I have never experienced such a god
dam awful, tacky, deteroriated, ugly and filthy place in my entire life. It was a complete and utter dump.

If Dreamland was the 'shows/funfair'.... it was the most dilapitated pathetic attempts at some form of entertainment - broken down, miserable, and a mess.

I've visited 3rd world countries that put the place to shame, (slight exaggeration, but not much)

Margate is a fail. I went there last year cos I live near it. Ugh I never wanna go there again. Just hideous.

The place has seriously deteriorated. I can remember going every year growing up. It was a thriving seaside town.

Its a real shame actually. The place is a dump.

Don't know what age you are Glenn, but as I say, I went there about 10 years ago (perhaps 12?) and it was seriously a dump then - and that didn't happen overnight.

Was one of those places I'd heard about when I was a 'kid'....and literally could not get out of the place quick enough.

I would of been about 5/6yrs old.
It would of been early 90's.
I went in 2001 and it was a dump then.

I know, I've heard loads of stories about how once it was some beautiful seaside town and now, just like many others, it's turned into a complete dump as you said. The beach is nasty and filled with fat chavs cos it's one of the only sandy beaches near us

Only thing I know about Margate is the episode of The Apprentice when they had to 'reinvent' it. Looked like a dump on that.

I remember watching that.... with them on the seaside trying to do an advert and a brochure or something.

Failed miserably iirc? One group were trying to make it into the New Brighton Gay Scheme thing........ when the place was filled with very much older 'traditionally marrried' types, very much set in their ways!
