Default Another record low audience as Big Brother drops below 1m viewers for first ever time

900,000 viewers for last nights show and its only week 2. I'm quite enjoying watching Channel 5 make a pigs ear of this

I think that's a real shame - I'm enjoying this year more than the last few years and think they are doing a better job than Ch4 did for a long while.

Timeslots may not be the best, that's the problem.

Don't care about Big Brother or don't care about Channel 5's incompetence leading to such ratings?

BB always does badly on Saturdays, It'd be more revealing if we knew the ratings for the rest of C5's programs so we could see what the number means in context.

The first one.

You can come up with all the excuses you want but if the word Big Brother is attatched and it doesn't have the draw of some niche ****otard celebritys like how the likes of Jedward and Amy Childs or whatever made up for the Celebrity numbers then it's going to bomb. And I don't think a format change will do anything good. Honestly Big Brother is dead. Simple as. At least as being a big show.

I think your post is more linked than you actually realise. Its lack of changes which have turned viewers away and killed BB. The main problem is that its come back too soon, it hadn't even been gone a year! Literally everything that Channel 5 shouldn't have done, they have done, and everything they should have done they haven't. Its their own fault for such a spectacular failing. If they left it a bit, maybe 2 or 3 years then BB could have came back quite strong but Channel 5 have just buried it after Channel 4 killed it.

We are enjoying Big Brother more than ever this time, all the innovations are good.

The editing is better than ever it was and we have to keep rewinding to see little background reactions. Last night, Mark mimicking Aden and Rebeckah hugging was a scream; Heaven massaging any eviction possibilities out of Tashie; Alex's face when Aaron asked her to go away. All gems.

The editors are managing to tell a few good stories without narration.

We absolutely loved, at Nominations, how Faye went in all prepared for blubbering with toilet paper. And she was the one who had talked all tough beforehand!

And it's always fun to see the trouble-makers cowering in the diary room like Jay did last night when being told off for the mattress going in the pool. "It was everybody else's fault." This so mirrors real life.

Just wish we could get Five Star on Freesat.

It's hard to understand why people would post on here such negative doom-laden comments as above, maybe they are Channel 4 employees?

The selection of housemates has been very good (not quite excellent) and having so many singles clearly leads to more spice.

Well done Channel 5.

Thanks for the friendly welcome after my first post on this forum. Not. I was speaking for our family, so WE seems a fair term to use.

Reading the many posts on this thread since 24 hours ago it seems that the vast majority of people are really enjoying Channel 5's Big Brother. But there are just a couple who keep posting negative comments.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would be sitting there so hawkishly to make so very many ongoing negative comments about a show they dislike. I was prompted to come onto a Big Brother forum for the first time purely because this series is so much more intriguing than recent years. There are a thousand tv shows I never watch (and might not like) but I would never dream of rooting out a forum to comment on them.

Charlie O says he doesn't need to see the show to make comments on it. The essence of the show is not that the Eye is different, and cannot be judged by glimpses of the hosemates. Big Brother is a story where A) the editing and B) the selection of housemates are the key factors. I really don't waste time worrying about the Eye when I want to be entertained.

When viewers get drawn into the storylines they start to predict what will happen next. This is when viewers become hooked. I am in this category already. Actually, WE are. We spend time predicting what might come next.

Finally, though I'm no statistician, it seems clear that Channel 4 had three main rival channels, as Channel 5 was always negligible. Channel 5 now has four main rivals, which is 33% more rivalry. Of course their ratings will be a bit lower, but with the current format and storylines they have every chance of increasing the share of viewers over time.

I certainly hope they do.

So who do you mean by "the vast majority of people" ?

Is the phrase just a wild assertive guess ?
