It's controversial because of the specific animal she used, which has historically been associated with a racial slur. If someone called Beckie a whale for example, I don't think the initial reaction would be that it's racist.

That's not true. I don't like Caroline and I don't think she meant the word 'gorilla' in a racially offensive context. You need to understand that a lot of people are able to not let the preference of a particular housemates bias their opinions when it comes to controversial issues, such as this one.

Caroline appears to me to look for 'weaknesses' that she perceives in everyone, is it really rational to believe that suddenly she's going to over look the fact that Adam is not white and could in her eyes, easily be targeted for that kind of racist attack? I don't think it is!!
