Default 2 Policewomen killed in Manchester

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19635239
Quote:
Two female police officers have died during a police operation in Tameside, Greater Manchester, police said.

Police said both officers suffered fatal injuries during a "routine operation" in Hattersley.

A witness close to the scene at Abbey Gardens reported hearing 13 gunshots and an explosion.

Police said Dale Cregan had been arrested at a police station in connection with the officers' deaths and two previous murders.

He was arrested when he walked into Hyde police station a short time after the incident in Tameside.

A bomb disposal team remain at the scene.

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said it was "a tragic day for Greater Manchester Police".

Home Secretary Theresa May said: "This is a deeply shocking incident and a terrible reminder of the risks that police officers face every day to keep our communities safe."

The police flag at Greater Manchester Police headquarters has been lowered to half mast.

Mr Shewan said Mr Cregan had also been arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder in relation to the investigations into the murders of David Short and Mark Short.

David Short was killed in a gun and grenade attack in Clayton on 10 August.

His son, Mark Short, was killed in a pub shooting at the Cotton Tree Pub in Droylsden in May.
this guy sounds insane, how tf did he have access to grenades and explosives?!

Why were 2 Police women sent on their own
for a Buglary?

It was all a set up
so he could shoot Police.

Police error sending them, I say

On Ch4News now

Dale Cregan

The Police had set up a £50,000 pay out if a public person
handed the place Dale Cregan was at.
That failed.

Armed Officers were about
there is something of a stink here.

Sure Cregan was Evil
but why let 2 women go out on their own.

Ch4News : just said should Police have been on better alert?

It's really scary to think there are people like this around. Terrible news for the families of the two officers. I suppose he knew his time was running out and didn't have much to lose by murdering them.

Impossible to try and understand what his motivation was to do something like this, for no apparent reason, and then hand himself in. Who knows what goes on in the mind of someone like this? He callously took their lives away from them in cold blood. Shattering the lives of their friends and family. Such a shame. Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes, may you rest in peace.

Police are saying the two officers were deliberately lured into an ambush, the perpetrators definitely wanted to make certain they got their targets because as well as being heavily armed with firearms they also had grenades. They were taking no chances...!!!

It seems strange he handed himself in afterwards. Thankfully he didn't go on a rampaging killing spree as others have done before, like Raol Moat.

Brave (or stupid) of him to hand himself into a Police Station bearing in mind he had just murdered two young WPC's in cold blood.

Be surprised if he makes it through the next few days unscathed...!!!

Yes you're right he knows if he goes on the run they will eventually find him and the chances are the are more than a few police bullets with his name on them. So yes handing himself in like he did was more akin to the actions of a coward.

Get ripped apart in prison. That's why there's no need for CP, if your crime involves women/children, you'll get eaten alive every single day

If you were in open circulation perhaps, but the system will make sure he's protected. There will be people looking out for his wellbeing even now.
