Exclamation The Bridge - Suicide Documentary

Following on from Ryan's topic and bobnots post about the documentary called The Bridge, which filmed the Golden gate Bridge for a year and the suicides and spoke to witnesses, friends and family of the victims. I sat and watched it this evening and have to say it is one of the most interesting documentaries I have seen. No matter what your opinion is on suicide, I really suggest watching this; yes, parts are very emotional but honestly, just the insight into how these people must have felt, did feel and how so many people were affected in different ways is fascinating.

I have so much more to say about this documentary, but really need to sleep so will add more later.

For those that want the link (I know bobnot didn't post it, but I am for those that are interested) it is here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/the-bridge/

I first saw this a few years ago and it did change my way of thinking on the subject. To say it isnt a black and white subject is an understatement some of the jumpers were clearly not very well, some were angry with life and some were reacting to stresses in their personal life.

Their families and friends opinions ranged just as widely some (even about the same person) were relieved some were resentful and angry about them doing it to them and some understanding but devastated at the same time that they could do this to them.

The opinions span every range you could think of and not one of them is wrong to think that way.

Suicide doesnt just involve the person that commits the act it will have a lasting effect on probably hundreds of people from the person that finds you to the medical team/police that retrieve your body to your friends that suffer the guilt of not stopping it and to the family and finally parents that blame themselves for your upbringing.

I forget sometimes how young some people are on this board are and really should learn to ignore some of the obviously silly unguided comments more.

Absolutely agree, this documentary was so eye opening to the aspects of suicide. The reasons for them jumping and the impact it has upon so many people was saddening yet joyful. I have to admit I did share a tear when Gene jumped from the bridge. The fact that so much of time on the bridge was captured, the interviews with his friends throughout and the way in which he jumped was so eerie and heart wrenching, especially hearing the news he would have had he not jumped.

Thank you for reminding of this bobnot, I've been meaning to watch it for ages.
