The Justice Collective have overtaken James Arthur in the race for this year's Christmas number one.
The Hillsborough charity single 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' is now 3,400 copies ahead of the X Factor champion's winner's single 'Impossible'. This comes just 24 hours after Arthur was leading the chart by 3,000 copies in the first midweek update yesterday (December 18). "This really is the closest No.1 battle we can remember - even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry," said Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot. "The poll concludes at midnight on Saturday night [December 22], so there is a long way to go yet - but this one looks like going down to the wire." Arthur has currently shifted 106,300 copies of 'Impossible' this week, while The Justice Collective are ahead with sales of 109,700. The Justice Collective are made up of a group of musicians including Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Melanie C. Digital Spy Who do you think will get the coveted Christmas no. 1 spot? One of the above, or do you think that a late comer could become a contender? Bound to be the Liverpool anthem, the news today will give it a further boost, if not then the 1.00 fish man will do nicely. James can sod off.

X Factor champion James Arthur trails by 3,400 copies at two with his winner's single 'Impossible', while will.i.am and Britney Spears's 'Scream & Shout' is at three.
Rihanna moves up to four with 'Stay', while Bruno Mars slides two places to five with 'Locked Out Of Heaven'. YouTube star Alex Day lands at 12 with his latest cut 'Stupid Stupid', Pitbull moves up to 14 with 'Don't Stop The Party' and One Direction plummet 11 places to 23 with 'Kiss You'. Ellie Goulding starts at 30 with new single 'Figure 8' and X Factor reject One Pound Fish Man is a new entry at 38 with 'One Pound Fish'. Reject?

The Justice Collective are currently 23,000 copies ahead of its nearest rival, which is X Factor champion James Arthur and his winner's single 'Impossible'.
"The momentum is in favour of the Justice Collective, who now have a decent lead, having sold around 15% more than James Arthur at this point," said The Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot. "But they have opened up their lead in just two days - it could easily be closed over the next two days." He added: "The Justice Collective are favourites right now - but their lead is not unbridgeable by any means. With two days of sales left to be counted, it is all to play for." |
