Default Possible Power Blackout Risk this winter National Grid warns

We had the same 2007/8
but is never came.

http://news.sky.com/story/1151305/po...est-since-2008

[The UK is facing its greatest risk
of winter blackouts in more than
five years, the National Grid has warned.
Traditional North Sea gas sources are
replaced by "uncertain" imports making
it more likely that at any other time in
six years that supplies will fall short this winter.
However, the National Grid has said it is
confident that the market has the
capability to keep the lights on this winter.
Chris Train, director of market operations,
said electricity margins - the difference
between peak demand and available
supply - were "tighter than we have seen historically".]

Nope, the energy suppliers.
Lying that there is no supply to justify the hike.
I'm seriously considering removing my gas fire...

You could use Just Electric
stop using Gas.

Cuts the bills big time

As gas bills then are 20 or 30 pounds for hot water only
if you have central heating for that

These people are real doomwatchers, they should be making sure it is as near impossible as it can be for that to happen.
They seem useless and incompetent and even in 2010 with that really freezing period from November to February it didn't happen either when demand must have been massive.

That Angela Knight woman really gets me annoyed, useless ornament that she is.

I'm lucky, my gas fire was condemned, I couldn't find the manual when the council came to service the fire so they capped it.
Balls to it, will ask them to sweep the chimney and put a grate in instead

If I were to build a house in the future, I would have solar panels, a little windmill on the roof, triple glazing, insulate it to the nth degree, a wood burning stove ...so sick of paying these prices, and even more sick of paying VAT on something that isn't a luxury

Really good point, there should not be VAT on such an essential service as Gas and Electricity. Shocking that.

If the power goes out, everything electrical and your gas central heating as that also powers the boiler. Doubt it will happen though!
