Plusieurs milliers de plaintes ont été adressées à l'autorité de surveillance britannique de l'audiovisuel au sujet de l'émission de télé-réalité Celebrity Big Brother estimant que l'une des participantes est victime de racisme.

Les téléspectateurs se sont insurgés contre les maltraitances, les railleries et le racisme dont est victime l'actrice bollywoodienne Shilpa Shetty, 31 ans, de la part de plusieurs de ses colocataires.

Dernier épisode en date: l'une des participantes déclarait lundi que les Indiens sont minces étant toujours malades parce qu'ils ne font pas assez cuire leurs aliments.

Elle s'est aussi plainte, avec deux colocataires, que Shilpa avait touché la nourriture avec ses mains. "Vous ne savez pas où ces mains ont été", avait ajouté Danielle Lloyd, une miss Grande-Bretagne déchue.

L'une des participantes, éliminée depuis, faisait référence à Shilpa en disant "l'Indienne" ou en écorchant son prénom. Channel 4 a indiqué dans un communiqué "prendre cette affaire très au sérieux et Big Brother ne tolère pas de maltraitance ni de racisme d'aucune sorte.

Big Brother contrôle étroitement tous les colocataires et prendra les mesures appropriées pour réprimander de tels comportements si nécessaire".
