£250,000 can get you this.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-...-50677210.html £400,00 can get you this. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-...-49448212.html £600,000 can get you this. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/overseas-...-50444890.html etc. To have a house like the first one in most parts of UK, you'd probably have to have about at least 500k. To have a house like the third in North london you'd probably have to have about £8Million. Last edited by Will.; 09-10-2015 at 06:19 PM. |

Housing is also more expensive in London. According to Global Property Guide, London ranks number two (Monaco is number one) in terms of the world's most expensive cities to rent and buy. It costs $34,531 per square meter to buy in London. It costs $18,499 in New York City.

yeah it's ridiculous, I was looking at old newspaper the other day in the house and the house next door (Winchmore Hill area) was bought for £140K in 1990's and now worth in the region of £600-800k.

I suppose there could be other factors, they have more land to build bigger average houses and £250,000 in the USA might not be equivalent to the same in the UK. There could be differences in wages and they gotta pay for health care and guns and stuff.
Those wooden walls probably cost less to build than bricks too. London prices are silly though not just for houses but for everything!!

340,000 is not cheap in America. You can't even get that in a year at a straight out of university job here.
Which is also why I haven't moved out of my parents place. Apartments are a bit expensive too.

To save the 220k equivalent in the UK it'd take about a decade without any spending on the type of job you're talking about.I'm very envious of you Americans when it comes to house prices. Last edited by Samuel.; 09-10-2015 at 07:15 PM. |
