Friday the 13th remake/reboot was amazing.

A lot of people say the Halloween 2 remake was good but I thought both of them were awful.

The House on Soriority Row remake was good. And The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I dont really know of any remakes outside of the horror genre.

I'd also say Peter Jacksons King Kong. The original's impressive for it's time and everything, and the remake isn't perfect, but it's still an excellent film and an improvement imo.

Only one I can think of was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, only example where I've seen and loved both equally.

I did like the Dawn of the Dead remake but I haven't seen the original.

My sisters and I loved the **** out of this when I was younger. It's a Japanese female remake of the magnficent seven. I've never actually seen Magnificent 7 and since they're remaking it with Denzel I should. But yeah, now that I am grown I realize this could have been the sh8ittest movie ever made but i'll always love it. It's about the bonding time while watching this

I find the 1998 Psycho to be less of a film, but more an experiment in Hollywood remake culture. Here we had Gus Van Sant choose to remake arguably one of the greatest Hollywood horror movies ever, but doing so shot for shot and line for line exactly the same as the original. The theory of course is if the film is exactly the same as the original then it would garner the same sort of positive feedback, and yet these days the film is mocked as a pointless vanity exercise and a pale imitation of the original (despite it being exactly the same). The film goes a long way to demonstrating that the qualities that make a classic film don't come explicitly from shot choice or dialogue, but from the subtle intricacies in a film and how they combine with wider attributes such as camerawork etc. How the unnerving performance of Anthony Perkins becomes hammy and immature in the hands of Vince Vaughn, or how the comparative youth of Anne Heche compared to Janet Leigh leads to her motives being seen less seriously by the viewer.

As an experiment it's fascinating to watch, but as a film in it's own right...
